Polystyrene is an inexpensive, thermoplastic that is easily processed and possesses good optical clarity, high gloss, good dimensional stability and rigidity. With the addition of synthetic rubber, general purpose polystyrene can be altered into high impact polystyrene, adding strength in impact properties. Due to its relative inexpensive price point, Polystyrene has found a home in numerous applications spanning countless industries, particular in the one-time use disposable market, but also with its crystal clarity and appearance, can be found in higher end applications. Common uses for Polystyrene are items such as disposable razors, disposable food containers and utensils, and also in higher end displays, toys and housewares.
